Plan on betting The Preakness this year? Check out our 6 must know facts before placing your wager. Good luck!
.) The conditions will be 90% rain.
.) The Preakness is the shortest distance of the Triple Crown at 1 3/16 miles. This typically means that the pure speed horses flourish. Ride on Curlin(2014) finished second in last years Preakness but outside the top 7 in the other two legs of the Triple Crown.
.) Top Trainer Todd Pletcher has pulled his 4 horses: Materiality, Competitive Edge, Stanford, and Carpe Diem. Competitive Edge was set to make an impact at the Preakness, while Materiality is going to be a threat at the Belmont.
.) Kentucky Derby 4th place finisher Frosted is absent from this field but will benefit the most from the added distance at the Belmont.
.) Trainer Bob Baffert (owns both A.P. and Dortmund) will do all he can to ensure a Triple Crown chance for American Pharoah. Could this possibly mean instructing his jockies to use Dortmund as a blocker if the opportunity arises? He says all horses in his stable get an equal shot but I am skeptical.
.) Rested threat Divining Rod is the Lexington Stakes winner but did not have enough points to qualify for the Kentucky Derby. He could be a good gamble if the odds are good.
