Draymond Green Suspended For Hurting LeBron’s Feelings

So apparently you can drop kick foreigners in the nuts but god forbid you have a spat with Lebron James.  Although I don’t like Draymond, and him not being suspended in the OKC series screwed my future bet (OKC to win championship at 14-1), I still think it’s pretty weak of the NBA to suspend him now over this.

Perhaps they want the series to go at least 6 games for a little extra dough.

Matt Harvey Plans to Pitch in the Playoffs

Betsome - Matt HarveyNew York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey said on Sunday that he will pitch in the postseason if the Mets reach the playoffs.

“I will pitch in the playoffs,” Harvey stated. “I will be healthy, active and ready to go.”

Harvey, who is called by Mets fans “The Dark Knight” also noted that Mets General Manager, Sandy Alderson, his doctors, and the entire organization are all on the same page and that they’ll work together to decide whether or not he’ll have an innings limit during the regular season.

There were reports in the media that Harvey was going to be put on an 180 pitch limit for the regular season despite Dr. Andrew’s, a renown sports doctor, statement where he said Harvey is perfectly healthy and does not need to be put on an innings limit. But the team needs to consider fatigue as a factor if they want him to pitch at a high level if they make the playoffs.

According to odds-makers from Vegasinsider.com, the Mets are 8/1 to win the 2015 World Series. They’re currently five games up on the Washington Nationals in the NL East heading into Tuesday’s action.

New Jersey Denied Again in Effort to Legalize Sports Betting

Senator Ray Lesniak

Senator Ray Lesniak

A federal appeals court ruled for the second time in two years on Tuesday, August 25th, that New Jersey’s attempt to allow sports betting in casinos and racetracks violates federal law, which sets back efforts to expand legal sports gambling in the United States for years.

A three-judge panel from the Third U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia ruled in favor of professional sports leagues and the NCAA, which have twice sued New Jersey to prevent attempts to expand legal sports betting into the state despite a 1992 federal law that bars most sports gambling outside Nevada.

For those people who are against country’s stance on sports betting, like New Jersey State Senator Raymond Lesniak, Tuesday’s ruling leaves two options: The first would be to hope for a rare rehearing of this case which happened twice already, or push for Congress to repeal the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992, or PASPA.

“Our hopes are certainly lessened by this decision, although not extinguished,” said Lesniak, who has hoped sports betting would attract business to New Jersey’s flagging casinos. “I’m looking forward to working aggressively with other state leaders to get Congress to do it right.”

PAPSA/Fed Holding States Back

In 2012, New Jersey argued in federal court that PASPA was unconstitutional, and lost. A panel from this same appeals court ruled PASPA is constitutional, but seemed to leave a path open to legal sports betting similar to how Colorado and Washington legalized marijuana: remove state prohibitions.

PASPA bars states from “authorizing” sports betting, so New Jersey lawmakers tried to come up with legislation that allowed sports betting without technically authorizing it.

In 2014, Governor Chris Christie partially repealed New Jersey’s prohibitions on sports betting in casinos and racetracks. Christie did not fully repeal New Jersey’s laws against sports betting, though. He kept it illegal to bet on college sporting events that involve New Jersey colleges or collegiate events taking place in the state.

In Tuesday’s decision, the judges concluded this attempt to expand sports betting without technically “authorizing” it failed, because New Jersey still selectively decided “where sports gambling may occur, who may place bets on such gambling, and which athletic contests are permissible subjects for such gambling.”

NBA Behind Sports Gambling Legalization

The push to expand legal sports wagering outside Las Vegas seemed to gain momentum earlier this year, with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and Senator John McCain support a federal discussion of the country’s unique legal stance, which treats sports betting different than all other types of gambling.

Since PASPA’s passage in 1992, the United States has undergone an unprecedented expansion of every type of gambling except sports betting. Most states now have casino gambling, but bettors who want to legally wager money on a sporting event like an NFL or NBA game still need to travel to Las Vegas.

Nearly $4 billion is bet legally on sports in Las Vegas each year. Estimates for how much Americans wager illegally each year on sporting events like the Super Bowl, the NCAA men’s basketball tournament and others range from $80 billion to $400 billion.

“Today’s decision by the Third Circuit on sports betting and how gaming is regulated encourages deeper examination about the best path forward on this issue,” American Gaming Association President and chief executive Geoff Freeman said in a statement. “It’s clear that current law is not achieving its intended result.”

The sports leagues — most notably, the NFL — that continue to oppose changes to federal law on sports betting argue it threatens the integrity of their games by increasing the chance for game-fixing.

New Jersey will appeal Tuesday’s ruling, said Lesniak, and ask for a rehearing, which would require a majority of the judges in the Third Circuit to agree to hear the case. The court should decide whether it will hear the case by the end of this year.

DraftKings Expanding its Operations to the UK

draftkings-300x250Fantasy sports provider DraftKings, which recently raised a $300 million round of investment, is delivering on its promise to expand overseas.

The daily fantasy sports company said it has been licensed to operate in the United Kingdom and plans to open a London office by the end of this year. Its license from the UK Gambling Commission shows that DraftKings is authorized to operate gambling software and pool betting.

Chief executive Jason Robins previously said that a UK expansion would come in 2015, enabled by the new fund-raising round. On Monday, the company said it also plans to expand to Europe, Asia, and Latin America in 2016. Newly hired chief international officer Jeffrey Haas, who is the group director over for bwin.party’s online poker operations , will lead the expansion.

Expanding to the UK and beyond allows DraftKings to add a new base of players and more games to its fast-paced version of fantasy sports, in which users compile imaginary rosters of real-life athletes and compete to get the best overall statistics.

DraftKings operates in a new niche known as daily fantasy sports, which creates new games daily or weekly in a bid to speed up the gameplay and increase the number of players and prize payouts.

That’s a big change from traditional fantasy sports leagues, which can take weeks or months to pay off as they trace the arc of an entire season.

FanDuel Still Leading DFS Race

DraftKings is the second-largest daily fantasy sports operator in the US behind New York-based FanDuel. Although most online gambling is banned under federal law in the United States, Congress has specifically allowed fantasy sports companies to give away cash prizes, based on the the idea that they are games of skill rather than contests of chance.

FanDuel said it plans to pay about $2 billion in prizes this year, while DraftKings expects to award more than $1 billion. The companies typically keep around 10 percent of player fees as revenue, paying the rest in prizes.

The fast-growing companies have attracted big names in sports and media as investors. DraftKings’ latest financing round was led by Fox Sports, with Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League, Major League Soccer, and the Kraft Group, owners of the New England Patriots, also investing. FanDuel’s financial backers include NBC Sports, Comcast Ventures, and the NBA.

StarsDraft – Amaya Enters the DFS Business

PokerStars-VictivPokerStars parent company Amaya Inc. has confirmed plans to enter the Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) market under the StarsDraft brand following the acquisition of Texas-based company Victiv.

Victiv’s existing technology and platform will be re-branded as StarsDraft, with its current management team to continue operation of the product which currently offers games on weekly fantasy football, daily fantasy basketball, daily fantasy baseball, fantasy golf, and fantasy hockey players.

Victiv first launched its DFS offering in September 2014, with Amaya noting that it has proved popular particularly among new players. It offers features such as Bankroll Builder, in which players are able to learn how to play, entering contests for free with the chance of winning cash prizes.

The rebranded StarsDraft offering will initially be launched as a dot.com site and in select US markets, before being made available via the PokerStars platform. Amaya noted that Victiv had “received considerable attention among daily fantasy players for its user-friendly and innovative software for fantasy sports enthusiasts.”

Details of the acquisition cost have yet to be confirmed. “StarsDraft will combine Victiv’s innovative platform and experienced DFS team with Amaya’s expansive consumer base and operational excellence as the world’s preeminent online gaming brand,” Victiv chief executive Matthew Primeaux said.

We intend to capitalize on what we believe is strong crossover between online poker players and daily fantasy sports. PokerStars is the most-trusted brand in online gaming and brings unmatched security, customer support and technical infrastructure that we believe all players can rely on.

Atlanta Falcons v New Orleans Saints

NFL 2015 Futures – Saints Win Total

The New Orleans Saints win total opened at 9, and I like the under.  Here’s why.

Atlanta Falcons v New Orleans SaintsFirst off, 9 seems a little high to me considering they weren’t too hot last year, they have a weak defense, and they lost Jimmy Graham.

After looking at the schedule I estimate they will have the following losses:

@ Cardinals, @Panthers, Cowboys, @Eagles, @Colts, Giants, @Texans, Panthers, Lions, and @Falcons.

If somehow this was exactly correct, that would leave them with a 6-10 record at best.  So even if they win 2 of the games above, the under of 9 is still a win.  If they win 3 it’s a push.  I believe they will go 8-8 at very best.

On top of all of this, the Saints are all around usually a public favorite, and I always like to fade the public if possible.

All things considered, the under of the Saints win total at 9 is one of my favorite current futures going into the season.  Good luck.

Betting Odds on Mayweather vs. Berto Fight

fm-e1433941678273Many boxing fans are scratching their heads over Floyd Mayweather’s official opponent for what he is calling the last fight of his career, and that is Andre Berto. Berto who is 30-3 is no slouch, but is who is just 3-3 in his last six fights.

If this happens to be Mayweather’s last fight, one would have thought it would have been Timothy Bradley Jr. or Canelo Alvarez who would attract more PPV viewers. I am not convinced this would be Mayweather’s last fight as it only ties him for the record set by Rocky Marciano at a professional record of 49-0. Wouldn’t he want to break the record and not tie it?

View Real-Time Sports Betting Odds

Mayweather will be defending his WBA (Super), WBC and The Ring Welterweight championships against Berto on Saturday, Sept. 12 from the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas which is Floyd’s home turf. Mayweather (48-0) is looking to complete his career without a loss but is facing a rather lackluster opponent in Berto.

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Mayweather is the clear favorite in this fight, as he has odds of -3000 to win, while Berto has been given a money line of +1700 to win this fight.

Bet on Boxing Odds

Mayweather is making the media rounds trying to hype this fight as a big deal, but there doesn’t seem to be a lot of interest following his snooze-fest win over Manny Pacquiao, a fight that had all the hype. Now at 38, Mayweather insists this is his last fight, as his Showtime deal is expiring. The draw for this fight could be that it is the last of Mayweather, who has a flawless record. However, Berto has little to no drawing power and this fight seems to just be an exhibition for Mayweather.

My gut is telling me that this won’t be his last fight and he will generate a super fight that will be looking to break Marciano’s 49-0 record. Unless Berto has something to say about that come September.

Regulation of Daily Fantasy Sports in the Future?

baseball and dollars, concept sport bettingIt almost seems like daily fantasy sports betting became a billion dollar overnight. FanDuel and DraftKings two of the fantasy sports betting industry leaders said in a joint statement to Reuters that they “are speaking with gaming industry representatives to educate them on the fantasy sports industry as our products are fundamentally separate from, and not competitive with casinos and gaming businesses.”

The line between skill and luck is being somewhat blurred by the trend’s rapid growth. AG Burnett, chairman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board said, “When chance begins to govern the outcome more than skill, you have a form of gaming, and that’s when the need for regulation kicks in.” So with that said, Nevada could push for DFS to be shut down in that state until some kind of regulation is put in place.

The demographic of the fantasy sports industry is the most desired of the gambling industry patrons. The majority of daily fantasy sports players are men, and over 90 percent of them are white. Fifty-one percent are between the ages of 25 and 35. I predict as time goes on, the average age will probably become younger which is similar to what happened when the poker boom arrived. Players are getting younger and younger as the game offers bigger payouts.

American Gaming Association On The Case

Dealing with the legality, the American Gaming Association has created a task force to study the issue without any definitive conclusions yet. Some gaming companies are calling daily fantasy sports unlawful.

John McManus, MGM International’s general counsel, commented, “It is not in the interests of consumers that established gaming companies, which are fully licensed and regulated, are the only market participants that cannot engage in the business,” McManus continued, “MGM Resorts International would like to see daily fantasy sports made legal and properly regulated, similar to our position on all forms of gambling.”

Lobbyists for the fantasy sports industry dispute that characterization, however, saying that their games are clearly more about skill than luck. The Fantasy Sports Trade Association President Paul Charchian went on to say “The money motivation was never a key element of fantasy sports. Now a lot of the marketing in daily fantasy sports is really excessively focused on monetary gain.”

MVP Picks – 2015 NFL Futures

Andrew-Luck_crop_northLast year we had 2 picks for NFL MVP, Aaron Rodgers & Andrew Luck. Rodgers won the MVP at 7.5-1 odds, and Luck was a solid horse that was in contention throughout the season who we got at 20-1. These were both bet before the season began.

After looking at this years odds, we have come up with our picks for NFL MVP in the 2015 season.

As per usual we have a few horses, all whom we consider to have a great chance to win along with having incredible value as well.

Something to keep in mind before reading further or making a bet, is that the NFL MVP race tends to be very QB heavy with past winners, and a wide receiver has NEVER won it in the history of the league.

Andrew Luck Odds: 8-1

Andrew-Luck_crop_northAndrew Luck is the 2nd odds-on favorite to win the MVP behind Aaron Rodgers, and we believe that this is his year. He could’ve won it last year when his odds started at a lowly 20-1, and now he has added Andre Johnson to lineup opposite TY Hilton, and added Frank Gore to the backfield.

Not only has Luck gotten better every year, but the Colts look like they are better than they’ve been since the Peyton Manning days. Luck likely will break records in his career and get at least one MVP, hopefully this is the year he breaks out as the leagues top QB.

Ben Roethlisberger Odds: 14-1

ben-roethlisberger-says-the-steelers-are-the-worst-team-in-the-leagueBig Ben threw for over 4,900 yards last year and had the best year of his career. This year he happens to also be 2nd odds on favorite for total passing yards. This leads me to believe that barring injuries, he will be heavily involved in the MVP race until the end.

Roethlisberger has not yet won the MVP award in his career, and it is just about the only thing that he is missing. He is great value at 14-1, especially with possibly the most talented offensive players in the league around him at RB (Bell) and WR (Brown).

Tony Romo Odds: 20-1

Tony-Romo-will-pile-up-yards-vs-Patriots-R1FHFDB-x-largeTony Romo is another QB that has had a stellar career with near MVP performances, but still has not won one. With arguably the most talented receiver in the league in Dez Bryant, he will without a doubt be in the discussion towards the end of the season. 20-1 on your money is great value, and likely will move to 12-1 or less by mid season.

The loss of superstar RB Demarco Murray may hurt Romo or help him, but if the Cowboys can win their division, look for Romo to be in the final few MVP candidates.

Eddie Lacey Odds: 25-1

131222-steelers-4-16x9At 25-1, Eddie Lacey is an absolute value steal for a top 3 RB in the league, on a fan-favorite team with a high powered offense and serious Super Bowl ambitions.

Lacey also has great hands and gets a lot of receptions, recieving yards, and TDs. With Bell on suspension and Peterson on bad terms with the league, this just may be Lacey’s year to get the glory.

Eli Manning Odds: 50-1

hi-res-180087621-quarterback-eli-manning-of-the-new-york-giants-reacts_crop_northEli Manning may be the best value pick for MVP at the beginning of this 2015 season. 50-1 is just insane odds on a man with the last name Manning to win an MVP. These odds are sure to go down to 20-1 or less by mid-season.

Eli has not won the MVP yet in his career, but he has perhaps the best receiving corps of his career with Beckham and Cruz. Like Romo, if the NYG can win their division, Eli will be in the MVP talks. At 50-1, it seems like a crime to not put something on it.
